Toyota Hybrid Fuel Efficiency

Toyota Corolla Hybrid

These days, traditional gas vehicles have excellent MPG outputs. From a sedan, like the Toyota Corolla, to an SUV, like the Toyota RAV4, you can go farther on a tank of gas than ever before. However, hybrid vehicles can keep you on the road much longer, as many Toyota hybrids, for example, can produce over an EPA-estimated 50 MPG for both city and highway travel.1

Some Toyota hybrids, like the Prius Prime, are plug-in hybrids. These vehicles can drive solely on electric power for short distances and are recharged either at home or at charging stations on the road. This type of vehicle can save you lots of money on fuel, especially on short trips when gas power isn’t needed.

Toyota Hybrid Performance

Compared to traditional gas vehicles, Toyota hybrids perform a bit differently. Similar to traditional automobiles, they still feature an internal combustion engine. For example, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 176 horsepower. The same vehicle, however, also includes an electric motor and Nickel-Metal Hydride battery to produce a total of 219 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

Furthermore, like some of the engines in gas-powered Toyota vehicles that offer SPORT, ECO, and NORMAL drive modes, hybrid versions can offer these modes as well as EV and TRAIL modes. In any case, these engines produce incredibly low emissions, which makes them much more environmentally friendly.

What Else Makes a Toyota Hybrid Unique?

Aside from better MPG outputs and different engines with low emissions, there are multiple components a Toyota hybrid doesn’t have in relation to its gas counterparts. For example, you’ll notice that Toyota hybrid transmissions don’t have set gear ratios. Instead, they use electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmissions (ECVT), which further increases MPG output.
